A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon sub-specializing in disorders of the shoulder, Dr. Routman has been a South Florida resident since 1979 and a graduate of the University of Florida and Nova-Southeastern University with highest honors. He completed an American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Fellowship in 2000 at The Hughston Clinic and Sports Medicine Foundation in Columbus, Georgia and began practice in Palm Beach County in 2001. He is one of the regional pioneers of all-arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, performing this procedure since 2002. He also performed the first reverse shoulder replacement in South Florida in 2003. Dr. Routman's practice encompasses all aspects of shoulder problems from sports injuries, fractures, replacements, second opinions and the management of previous surgical failures. In addition to treating patients, Dr. Routman teaches internationally and has performed surgery in Australia, Asia, Europe and South America. A design surgeon for Exactech, Dr. Routman is actively involved in research focused on patient outcomes after shoulder replacement and has published multiple studies focused on results, pain control and the biomechanics of shoulder replacement surgery.

Shoulder problems are usually straightforward, but each patient is different. Customizing treatment based on the individual needs of my patients is something I take pride in. I offer a team approach with a group of individuals who have been treating shoulders under my direction with many years of experience. I consider my primary role in the office is as an educator, I want patients to leave the office understanding what is wrong with their shoulder and what their management options are. Only after that can patients make well-informed decisions.
